Permanent
Total Disability (PTD)
PTD is an additional benefit you can select on your critical
illness cover that allows a claim to proceed if you suffer a
permanent total disability and you are unable to work.
It differs from plan to plan and can include riders such as own
occupation and any occupation. This essentially means that you
can make a claim if the PTD renders you unable to carry out your
own occupation in the event you have own occupation benefit, or
any occupation in the event you have any occupation benefit.
Some companies have also introduced a test called daily living
tasks and they require you to be unable to carry out three of up
to about 11 daily living tasks to be deemed as permanently
totally disabled.
There is also the very common limitation to this benefit in so
much as they will not normally pay out after age 60 to 65
depending on company.
